UEFA Investigates Racist Chants by Spanish Players After Euro Victory

UEFA, the governing body of European football, announced the opening of an investigation into racist chants against Morocco and Gibraltar, sung by Spanish national team players during the celebration of their triumph at the Euro in the streets of Madrid.
UEFA decided to open an investigation into this matter following a complaint from the Gibraltar federation, a country that was also targeted by the Spanish players during the celebration of their Euro victory on the Cibeles square in Madrid on Monday, July 15.
Player Rodri Hernandez sang the song "Gibraltar is Spanish, Gibraltar is Spanish" as he got off the bus that transported the team to the Cibeles Square. Later, Álvaro Morata, captain of La Roja, took up the same song on the podium, in front of thousands of fans and supporters, and his teammates chanted in chorus: "and Morocco too".
The Spanish players could face sanctions at the end of this investigation conducted by the Ethics and Discipline Commission of the governing body of European football.
