X (Twitter) reveals the origin of users hostile to Morocco

The social network X has deployed an update that changes the game for user identification. Since last Friday, the platform displays the country of origin of the accounts, a novelty that has immediately revealed the true origin of many profiles hostile to Morocco, previously hidden behind false local identities.

This transparency feature has lifted the geographical anonymity of several foreign entities. The data now visible indicates that a significant portion of the accounts targeting the Kingdom operate mainly from Algeria and Canada. Other profiles are located in various Arab countries, including nations that publicly display friendly relations with Rabat. Screenshots shared on the platform have confirmed these discrepancies, exposing the real origin of users who claimed to be Moroccan.

A verification tool that unmasks influence campaigns

The initiative, presented by Nikita Bier, product manager at X, had the initial objective of helping users verify the authenticity of content and profiles. It ultimately served as a revelator for many pages that claimed to operate from within Morocco while they were managed from abroad. This geographical identification has thus exposed deliberate attempts to harm the country’s reputation, simplifying a verification that previously required complex technical tools.
