Tui fly Flight Diverted to Paris: Fez-Brussels Passengers Face Hours-Long Delay

A Tui fly plane that was supposed to transport passengers from Fez to Brussels took off with several hours of delay before unexpectedly landing in Paris. Tempers flared.

While they were waiting at Fez airport last Friday to take a Fez-Brussels flight, the Tui fly plane took off with hours of delay and landed in Paris. "It wasn’t a big problem, but still enough not to leave," confirmed Piet Demeyere, spokesperson for TUI Belgium, to Het Laatste Nieuws. According to his explanations, the aircraft coming from Orly did not have permission to land at Zaventem. "The best option was to [...] pick up the passengers in Fez and then take them by bus to Brussels," he adds.

On landing in Paris, the passengers expressed their anger. "Some people got upset and medical assistance even had to board for a person with an urgent medical problem. Several people refused to disembark. They demanded to be taken to Brussels by plane," the spokesman continued. The low-cost airline nevertheless managed to calm the situation. The passengers finally reached Brussels after a three-hour bus ride.

TUI regrets the incident and promises financial compensation. Also, it has decided to file a complaint against the company responsible for assisting airlines at Fez airport. "Our agent made a serious mistake, as he did not properly inform the travelers. An investigation is also underway to determine whether it is true that the travelers did not receive food and drink, and possibly a hotel, as Piet Demeyere points out. Because that is the normal procedure in case of delay."
