Brussels Airport Sees Sixfold Passenger Increase, Morocco Among Top Destinations

Passenger traffic at Brussels-Zaventem increased six times more in March compared to the same period last year. This, thanks in part to Morocco, one of the ten most visited countries last month.
The number of passengers passing through Brussels-Zaventem airport last March stands at 1,128,791, or "no less than six times higher than in March 2021 (187,000 passengers) when non-essential travel was prohibited," says its operator Brussels Airport in a press release. Compared to March 2019 (with nearly 2 million passengers) before the coronavirus crisis, this figure is down 44%, it is specified.
As for the share of transit passengers, it is 14%, or 4 percentage points below the 2019 level. This is explained by "the strong increase in outgoing local traffic and the decrease in the number of transfers between European destinations". These performances were achieved thanks to the countries most visited last month. At the top of the top 10 is Spain. It is followed by Italy, Germany, Portugal, Switzerland, France, Turkey and the United States. The United Kingdom and Morocco close the podium.
