Trial Postponed for Moroccan Extradited from Spain in Fatal Salé Arson Case

The Court of Appeal of Rabat has decided to postpone the examination of the file of the Moroccan extradited from Spain in May 2022 and accused of having set fire to a house in the Hay Rahma district in Salé, killing six members of the same family.
The court made this decision at the request of the defense, which requested a delay to better prepare its pleadings. The accused is the main suspect in the fire that occurred in February 2021 in Salé, which caused the death of six members of the same family. Wanted by the Moroccan authorities after his crime, the accused was arrested at the end of May 2021 in Spain where he spent a year in detention before being extradited to the kingdom.
Before his arrest, the 61-year-old man worked for a gas company in Spain. According to the elements of the investigation carried out by the Spanish police, he was in Salé about three months before the massacre. The defendant was in conflict with his brother over an inheritance. The latter, his wife and their children are the victims of this tragedy.
After being handed over to the Moroccan authorities, the accused was placed in pre-trial detention, then brought before the Attorney General of the King near the Court of Appeal of Rabat, who ordered his continued detention for premeditated murder and arson.
