At the last hearing, the court of first instance of Essaouira decided to postpone the trial of the treasure hunters in the mosques and cemeteries to the end of the current month, reports Al Massae. The events had taken place in March. The accused had been arrested in flagrante delicto of excavating a presumed treasure in a mosque in the commune of Marmara, near Essaouira. They were in possession of drilling tools. The police discovered that they had used these tools to dig in a cemetery.
The defendants were placed in custody before being brought before the justice system on March 29. The court will probably deliver its verdict in the next few days.
