Trial Begins for Alleged Killer of Young Moroccan in Mallorca, Defense Seeks Reduced Sentence

The defense of the alleged murderer of a young Moroccan in Calas de Mallorca in July 2021 has mentioned in its conclusions at the trial opened on Wednesday the possibility that his client be sentenced to three years in prison for a crime of intentional bodily harm or manslaughter due to serious negligence.

Lawyer Miguel Ángel Ordinas, representing the defendant, has renewed his request for his client’s acquittal, who he says is not guilty of the death of the 28-year-old Moroccan. But he does not rule out the possibility that the defendant be sentenced to one year in prison for a crime of manslaughter and intentional bodily harm (+ 3 months in prison) and to two years in prison for intentional bodily harm, reports Europa Press.

For its part, the prosecution has requested 12 years in prison for the defendant for a crime of manslaughter as well as the payment of 168,000 euros in damages to the victim’s parents and 20,000 euros to each of his four siblings.

The victim’s family, for its part, has also maintained its accusations of manslaughter and murder against the defendant. The family’s lawyer has requested that the latter be sentenced to 22 years in prison and 14 years in the event of proven manslaughter, as well as the payment of 210,000 euros to the parents and siblings of the victim.
