Major Drug Trafficking Trial Opens in Spain: 152 Accused Face Staggering Sentences

The trial of Antonio Tejón "El Castaña", head of one of the most active Moroccan hashish trafficking networks in the Campo de Gibraltar, as well as 151 of his collaborators, will open at the provincial court of Cádiz. The prosecution has requested against them sentences of 1,787 years in prison and €15.18 billion in fines.
The trafficker, even in prison in 2020, continued to lead his activities and to introduce Moroccan hashish bales on the Andalusian coast. The Andalusian Council has invested more than 150,000 euros to renovate the courtroom on the first floor of the Cádiz courthouse for this trial. The other defendants will be seated in the ground floor courtrooms where they will be able to follow the trial on screens and be called to testify.
The trial is expected to last 32 sessions. In its indictment, the prosecution has requested against the main defendant a sentence of 15 years and 9 months in prison and a fine of 104 million euros for a crime against public health, smuggling (use of prohibited boats) and membership in a criminal network.
