Spanish Man Convicted in Fatal Attack on Moroccan in Mallorca, Faces 25-Year Sentence

The Spanish justice system has found a Spaniard guilty of the murder of a 28-year-old Moroccan man in Calas de Mallorca in July 2021. He faces a sentence of 25 years in prison.
The defendant met the victim, who had been his wife’s companion, in a parking lot in Calas de Mallorca, and attacked him by hitting him in the temple, the jury recalled, specifying that the accused struck "unexpectedly and suddenly", so that the victim had no chance to defend himself. Unconscious on the ground, the young Moroccan also received kicks to the head, causing him serious brain injuries that led to his admission to the Son Espases hospital where he finally died, four months after the attack, reports Europa Press.
The jury rejected the defendant’s version, who claimed to have given a single "involuntary blow" to the victim and denied having continued to hit him while he was unconscious on the ground. The defendant said it was his uncle who had argued with the victim and his friend, and that he had only tried to separate them. A story that did not convince the jury, who had in their possession medical and forensic reports confirming the multiple skull fractures and serious internal injuries suffered by the victim.
The jury believes that the defendant may not have intended to kill the victim, but that he did. The jurors could not have proof that the dispute between the defendant and the Moroccan was based on a jealousy problem, as the prosecution claimed.
