Transavia Warns of Fare Hikes on Morocco Routes Amid Rising Fuel Costs

Due to the surge in oil prices, the airline Transavia is not ruling out a possible increase in airfares across its entire network. Trips from and to Morocco will therefore be affected.
"Structurally and gradually, the price of oil will remain high. To this you add the incorporation of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), with a rate today 3 times higher than kerosene and decarbonization. Inevitably, prices will increase, this seems inescapable," said Nicolas Henin, Transavia’s commercial manager, in an interview with TourMag. To achieve this, the company will, according to him, act on several levers: "make a trade-off in the network and when the demand is there, the prices increase mechanically. Fares were generally higher than in 2019, in the order of 15% for us".
The manager assures that the low-cost subsidiary of Air France will have to "guarantee affordable prices compared to others". "Our challenge is to maintain this balance. Consumers understand this increase. As a low-cost airline that guarantees affordable prices, we will maintain this affordability. Nevertheless, we will have to increase the average price in one way or another, we have no choice, otherwise we will all have to close shop," he added.
Recalling that Transavia’s model is a bit hybrid, Nicolas Henin indicated that the company’s management is not "at the extreme on the low-cost scale". "What will be at stake is to offer a good value for money, in view of the market. We are in a trend where everyone will have to raise prices, the whole challenge will be to maintain this positioning. I think we will be able to maintain this promise, compared to the competitive environment. This model has a good card to play," he concluded.
