Airfares from France to North Africa Drop Amid Global Price Increases

Airfares from France to North Africa and the Levant are falling despite increases observed on certain routes, particularly to Morocco.
According to the air passenger transport price index (IPTAP) of the Ministry of Ecological Transition, also in charge of Transport, airfares departing from France increased by +6.1% in September 2023 compared to September 2022, for all destinations and travel classes combined, reports Air Journal. Fares are rising more on domestic routes (+18.8% on intra-metropolitan links and +13.2% to overseas territories) than on international routes (+13.6%). International flight prices have risen by more than 4%, with a slightly more pronounced increase on long-haul (+4.8%) than on medium-haul (+3%).
For the long-haul international network, the increase is driven by sub-Saharan Africa, whose flight prices have risen by 8.4%, it is specified. This increase is explained by the geopolitical situation in the region, leading to an extension of flight times to certain destinations in Africa. Conversely, airfares have fallen by 7.1% in North African and Levantine countries due to declines observed in Algeria and Tunisia. However, this trend "hides" the increases that airfares have experienced for flights to Morocco and Israel, it is noted.
