Transavia Expands Mediterranean Routes from Montpellier, Adds Morocco Flight

Transavia has decided to strengthen its base in Hérault this summer with three new destinations, including Morocco from Montpellier.

The Air France-KLM subsidiary will serve Rabat in Morocco, Oran in Algeria and Istanbul in Turkey from its Montpellier-Fréjorgues base, launched five years ago. These three new destinations bring the number of destinations served by the group from Montpellier to 14, to nine countries in the Mediterranean, informs Le Parisien.

"This summer, we are offering 20,000 additional seats from Montpellier and we are aiming for an occupancy rate of 80%. We are already seeing strong demand for Istanbul (twice a week)," explains Nicolas Hénin, Deputy Managing Director of Transavia. In 2023, the company transported some 284,000 passengers (71% occupancy) from Montpellier and is aiming for a target of 340,000 passengers this year.

The Air France-KLM subsidiary and Montpellier airport also hope to strengthen the Montpellier-Paris-Orly line, whose passenger traffic has dropped considerably in 2023. "The commissioning of Paris metro line 14 from Orly will change the game with the possibility of reaching the center of the capital in only 20 minutes and for 11.50 euros, Transavia’s fares being well below those of the TGV," details Emmanuel Brehmer, director of the airport.
