US Trains Moroccan Customs to Combat Smuggling of Dangerous Materials

From May 30 to June 3, thirty Moroccan customs officers were trained by the United States on techniques for preventing the smuggling of dangerous chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear materials.
This training is part of the Morocco-US cooperation in this area, the US Embassy in Morocco wrote on Twitter, specifying that it was provided by four American trainers, including a nuclear chemist and a biologist, all affiliated with the US Department of Energy. It took place at the Customs Training Institute in Benslimane.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy, David Fisher, said that the US and Moroccan governments will continue to work together to develop training programs at the institute, as part of a broader security partnership between the United States and Morocco.
For the record, in 2021, the Moroccan customs service seized considerable quantities of smuggled goods worth an estimated 152 million dirhams, compared to 242 million dirhams in 2020.
