Tourist’s Viral Video Leads to Arrest of Alleged Scammer in Fez, Morocco

The law enforcement authorities in the city of Fez arrested, this week, an individual suspected of being involved in a case of extortion and fraud targeting tourists in the old medina.
The arrest follows the viral spread of a video on social media where a foreign tourist denounced the actions of the suspect. The nationality of the latter has not been disclosed.
Alerted by the video, the police services conducted a thorough investigation that led to the identification and location of the suspect. The latter, aged 42, was arrested and placed in custody at the disposal of the competent public prosecutor’s office.
The individual will have to answer to charges of extortion, fraud and identity theft. The investigation continues in order to elucidate all aspects of this case and to determine any possible accomplices.
