Tourist Office Flooded with Bizarre Requests, Including Search for Moroccan Palace
Monday 12 August 2019, by
The agents of the Tourist Office are clearly used to hearing astonishing requests. They receive, in particular, unusual requests that come up very regularly, reports L’Indépendant.
For example, disoriented tourists tell them that they are looking for the "palace of the kings of Morocco". Such examples abound.
"We are also very often asked about the operation of the buses. The major change in the Sankéo schedules has brought a lot of people to the Office. And, even more broadly, the bus crying office, that’s us," confide agents of the Perpignan Tourist Office.
Questioned, an agent recounts: "A man comes in and asks, in English, with a very good accent, how to get to Rodez, in the Aveyron. I explain to him that he would do better to go to the train station, accessible in a 15-minute walk. He then replies to me in French, with a very local accent, that he is too lazy to walk that much."
His colleague, from the same source, also remembers that last year she had to "deal with a very special request" [...]. A person presenting himself as an arenophile, that is to say a collector of sand, asked us to provide him, at our expense, with samples of all the types of sand present on the Roussillon coast. This is not quite our job."
Despite sometimes unpleasant exchanges, the agents of the Perpignan Tourist Office reserve a warm welcome for tourists.
In Perpignan, we are assured that "we must never end up on a negative note with our interlocutors. We always try to find a solution to each problem, even if it means sometimes going through an alternative," concludes the source.
