Toulouse Imam Acquitted in Controversial Hate Speech Case

Accused of incitement to racial hatred, the imam of Toulouse, Mohamed Tataiat, was acquitted on Tuesday by the Toulouse Criminal Court.
The facts date back four years. On December 15, 2017, he delivers a sermon that would incite Muslims to kill Jews in front of 3,500 worshippers in Toulouse. A video of this speech is posted online, without causing any reaction, reports AFP.
During the hearing that took place on June 29, the prosecution had requested six months of suspended prison sentence against the Toulouse imam. Mohamed Tataï had defended himself by explaining that his words had been taken out of context.
At the end of the new hearing held last Tuesday, the judges therefore acquitted the imam of Empalot, considering that there was "no intention of provocation" and no "discriminatory connotation" in him, adding that "nothing in the past of the imam in France demonstrates any hostility towards Jews," the same sources indicate.
