Three Israeli Airlines Add Marrakech Flights as Morocco Routes Rebound

Arkia, Israir and Sun d’Or, El Al’s leisure subsidiary, will all serve Marrakech this fall, reports JNS. Morocco is once again attracting several Israeli carriers after nearly three years of disruption to direct routes.

Arkia was the first to resume flights to Morocco this summer. Israir followed in September and is now preparing two weekly round trips between Tel Aviv and Marrakech, from early November to early January.

Israir also wants to launch a weekly direct flight to Casablanca as early as November. The airline has submitted an application to the relevant authorities but is still awaiting approval. The new route would make it possible to arrange trips arriving in Marrakech and returning from Casablanca, or vice versa. The permit application was announced on Sunday.

Some 20,000 tickets for the holidays

Sun d’Or will round out the schedule on November 16 with two flights a week between Tel Aviv and Marrakech. The El Al subsidiary had suspended service to the destination after the war broke out in October 2023.

Demand already appears strong. Around 20,000 tickets have reportedly been booked for trips to Morocco during the year-end holidays, reports Al Majalla, citing sources in the tourism industry.

Marrakech will therefore have three Israeli airlines competing directly from November. Travel professionals interviewed by JNS expect the increase in flights to bring fares down and accelerate the return of organized tours.

One airline is still missing from the resumption: Royal Air Maroc has yet to announce a date or schedule for restoring its own direct flights to Tel Aviv.
