Tétouan Implements COVID-19 Safety Measures for Ramadan Sweets Production

Faced with the covid-19 pandemic, the city of Tétouan has taken new preventive measures that apply to both merchants and citizens. These measures concern the marketing of Chebakia and other traditional pastries specific to the month of Ramadan.

The local authorities will authorize pastries and certain shops in the city of Tétouan to prepare and sell these Ramadan chhiwates, in order to preserve the health of the consumer during this fasting period. This decision is part of the preventive measures taken by the municipality of Tétouan, in accordance with those of the government aimed at preventing the spread of the epidemic. This is what a press release from the team in charge of this file within the municipality of Tétouan indicates.

The shops authorized to sell and prepare these traditional pastries will have to meet the recommended health and safety conditions during this period of health crisis. "The entry of citizens to supply themselves must be done in turn in order to be able to guarantee and respect the required distancing," it is specified.

These new measures are welcomed by many Tetouan residents. "We can only salute the efforts made by the officials and the authorities of the city who are watching over the health and safety of citizens in the face of the coronavirus," says Nada Lmisry, an association activist and teacher in a high school in Tétouan. "In my opinion, we must fight against Ramadan food waste and have a balanced diet during this holy month. It’s not good for your health to eat too much sweet pastries, especially in the evening. Personally, I prefer fruit for breaking the fast," she added.
