Tensions Escalate in Casablanca as Taxi Drivers Clash with Ride-Hailing Services

The tension between taxi drivers and those of VTC (Vehicles for Hire) cars is resurfacing. In recent days, several altercations have been observed in the stations of Casablanca, causing concern.
Taxi drivers in the economic capital are unhappy and they are making it known. Faced with the invasion of VTC applications, these professionals fear the death of their sector. To this end, some are multiplying acts of force to express their anger, reports Le Matin.
According to local sources, many incidents between taxi drivers and VTC drivers have been recorded in the Casablanca stations. The former prevent users from benefiting from these transport services and sometimes even harass them until they take taxis.
A video sequence that has gone viral on social networks shows a taxi driver harassing two foreign tourists in front of the Casa Voyageurs station, preventing them from choosing one of the VTC applications. A behavior that has clearly bothered the visitors and disrupted traffic.
Justifying his act, the driver evoked the complicated situation experienced by taxis because of these mobile transport services which, according to him, have aggravated the suffering of professional drivers since their entry into the national market in 2015. For their part, the VTC drivers claimed that this mode of transport is efficient and contributes to creating jobs, especially for unemployed professional drivers.
