Taxi Fare Hike in Tangier Sparks Outrage Among Tourists and Locals

Taking advantage of the summer season and the influx of tourists, taxi drivers operating between Tangier and Tétouan have increased the transport fare from 35 to 50 dirhams, causing discontent among vacationers and Moroccans residing abroad.
This sudden and unjustified increase in the transport fare between Tangier and Tétouan has provoked strong criticism from the people of Tangier and tourists. Local observers in Tangier have expressed their concern about this price hike, accusing the taxi drivers of taking advantage of the summer season to raise prices.
Such practices are detrimental to the reputation of the city of Tangier, which welcomes many visitors, especially Moroccans residing abroad, during the summer season, add the observers, warning that the sudden increase in transport fares could lead to a decrease in the use of taxis between Tangier and Tétouan.
Many voices are calling on the authorities to urgently take measures to put an end to these anarchic price increases that affect the purchasing power of citizens in the region. They are invited to strengthen the monitoring of prices set by law and ensure their respect by taxi drivers.
