Fez Residents Protest Taxi Service Amid Growing Transportation Crisis

The residents of Fez are angry with the petit taxi drivers, accused of sowing disorder in the city.
In a video shared on social networks, a woman is seen getting angry with a petit taxi driver from the Bab Ftouh region who refused to take her to her destination. Residents of the region have also expressed their anger in the video at the serious crisis shaking the urban transport sector. They denounce in particular the dilapidation of the buses, more and more involved in traffic accidents.
The ban on grand taxis from operating in the city center has only made the situation worse. The demonstrations of anger of the drivers of this category of taxi have not been enough to convince the authorities to authorize them to serve the city center. Yet this decision by the authorities would have helped to alleviate the crisis and offer better quality transport services to the people of Fez and tourists at affordable prices.
The crisis has set in after some petit taxis began to operate on fixed routes like the grand taxis, in violation of the law. These petit taxi drivers refuse to go to certain parts of the city at rush hour and to transport three people at a time. The authorities have announced the adoption of an ethical charter to end this disorder, but so far no action has been taken.
