Tangier’s Urban Expansion: 447 Hectares Poised for Transformation

The objective is to frame the urban development of an area located in the northeast of the Mghogha district, with an area of 236 hectares, and another located in the southeast of the same district with an area of 211 hectares. This is the goal pursued by the Urban Agency of Tangier, which has launched a call for tenders for the urbanization of these two new sectors, as reported by Médias24. The first sector has a strategic character due to its proximity to the Mediterranean ring road, the city center and the Tangier-Medina high-speed train station. It is located near an area known as Chjirat. The second sector is located in an area known as Lakhreb at the entrance to the city via the N2 national road leading to the city of Tetouan.

The Urban Agency of Tangier plans to complete the preparation of these two plans within a total period of about nine months. After a territorial diagnosis, the project will be submitted to the local technical commission, chaired by the governor. These two projects are fully in line with the provisions of the 2023 Mghogha-Souani development plan. They will have to accompany and anticipate the urban dynamics in the perspective of the intervention principles.

The project representative’s mission is to design a rigorous framework for urbanization covering the conditions of organization, development and development, but also to ensure the structuring of land use to meet current and future needs (housing, activities, community facilities and urban services) and to place the territory in a sustainable development approach.
