Tangier's Tourism Turmoil: Soaring Prices Spark Outcry and Government Scrutiny

In Tangier, the summer period rhymes with an unprecedented wave of rising prices for services offered in accommodation, catering and cafes, thus annoying locals, visitors or tourists. Concerned, the deputy Kouloub Faitah is questioning the Minister of Tourism, Crafts, Social and Solidarity Economy.

The current rates exclude large segments of citizens, particularly those with limited incomes, depriving them of the possibility of benefiting from national tourism offerings, even as the official authorities promote the concept of "tourism justice" and the right to fair access to tourism resources, notes the deputy Kouloub Faitah in a written question addressed to the Minister of Tourism, Crafts, Social and Solidarity Economy.

According to her, this irrational surge in prices undermines consumer rights and threatens Tangier’s image as a major tourist destination, especially as it coincides with the peak of the summer season marked by a significant influx of visitors, primarily members of the Moroccan community residing abroad.

Based on these findings, the elected official calls on the minister to provide clarification on these increases described as "unjustified". She also seeks to know the measures envisaged by her department to control the operators in the sector, and to ensure a balance between the cost of services and their actual level, in order to protect the purchasing power of citizens and preserve the reputation of the city both nationally and internationally. Finally, she demands urgent interventions to regulate the sector and put an end to the state of tariff disorder.
