Tangier Tourism Slumps as Traffic Gridlock Deters Visitors

While the streets and entrances of Tangier are experiencing intense traffic congestion, hotels are far from being full. The tourism sector is thus experiencing a significant drop in attendance, for several reasons.
Tangier snubbed? The congestion in the streets and entrances of the city means that the city is only a stopover point for tourists. Proof of this is that the occupancy rate of classified hotels has not exceeded 30% in recent weeks in certain units, despite the reductions offered by the tourist establishments in order to attract tourists. According to professional sources, this drop in attendance is explained by the intense traffic jams experienced by the city of Tangier, which have hindered the movements of tourists and spoiled their experience. They have difficulty moving around the city, which does not give them the desire to stay longer or even come to the city in the first place. Even residents have not been spared.
To reverse the trend, professionals in the sector call for the improvement of the city’s infrastructure. They are calling for radical and comprehensive solutions, ranging from infrastructure development to the improvement of tourism services, which will help regain the trust of tourists and ensure the return of tourism activity to its normal levels in the coming seasons.
