Tangier Tops List of Moroccan Summer Travel Destinations, Survey Finds

Many Moroccans took advantage of the summer season to travel within the kingdom or abroad. How did they organize themselves and what were their favorite destinations?
According to a Sunergia survey, Tangier tops the list of cities most visited by Moroccan tourists in the summer. 38% of respondents said the city of the Strait is the favorite destination of Moroccans during the summer season, ahead of Marrakech (33%), Agadir (26%), Tetouan (22%), Casablanca (12%), Rabat (10%) and Al Hoceima (9%).
According to the respondents, Moroccans who opt for vacations abroad prefer to go to European countries, particularly Spain (29%) due to its geographical proximity and cultural ties with Morocco, France (27%) in view of the privileged relations between the two countries, Italy (17%) and Turkey (15%). The people surveyed also mentioned other destinations such as Saudi Arabia (9%), for the Umrah and Hajj obligations, or Germany (9%).
The Sunergia survey also reveals differences in the organization of Moroccans depending on whether it is vacations in Morocco or abroad. For vacations within the country, Moroccans are not used to making reservations. 72% of the people surveyed said they settled the accommodation formalities on the spot, while 9% made reservations through hotel websites and only 7% through online platforms like Booking.
For trips abroad, the same trend is observed among Moroccans. 85% of the respondents said they had never booked accommodation abroad. Among those who have gotten into the habit of making reservations, 27% prefer hotel websites and 21% platforms like Booking or travel agencies.
