Study: Over Half of Moroccan Families Skip Summer Vacations Due to Rising Costs

A little more than half of Moroccan families do not plan to go on vacation this summer. For the others, a large majority plan to stay in Morocco.
Vacations too expensive for Moroccans? According to a study conducted by the Sunergia firm, reported by the daily Assabah, the average expenditure for vacations this year is 9,800 dirhams. 40% of individuals who travel for vacation purposes spend between 5,000 and 8,000 dirhams. 31% of travelers spend more than 10,000 dirhams, while 29% of respondents spend less than 5,000 dirhams, the study specifies. 16% of respondents plan a budget of more than 20,000 dirhams, 9% claim to spend 10,000 dirhams for their summer trips, 30% of respondents declare a budget of 5,000 dirhams.
According to the study, many Moroccan families do not plan to go on vacation this summer: 64% of respondents do not intend to travel this year, while 29% of respondents said they have already traveled or plan to travel. Only 5% of respondents say they have not made a decision.
Moroccans will be few to leave the country this summer. A large majority of them (88%) plan to stay in Morocco at least part of the summer, while only 15% think of going abroad. In addition to the kingdom, Spain, France, Italy and Turkey are the preferred destinations for the people surveyed as part of this study. For domestic tourism, Tangier, Casablanca and Marrakech are the top destinations for respondents.
