Tangier Taxi Fares to Surge 40% Starting January 23

Taxi fares will increase by 40% in the very near future in Tangier.
The entry into force of the increase in the fares of small taxis (of the second category) is set for January 23, according to a statement from the taxi unions in Tangier.
Thus, the minimum fare for a trip will now go from 5 to 7 dirhams, an increase of 40%. The minimum night rate is set at 10.50 dirhams. However, the price of the meter drop and the starting price (flat rate) remain unchanged.
"The city authorities have expressed reservations about a general increase in fares," the statement jointly signed by the two main taxi unions in the capital of the Strait said.
Furthermore, an official from the Tangier wilaya, under the Ministry of the Interior, told Le360 that this increase is illegal due to its unofficial nature.
