Tangier Struggles with Chaotic COVID-19 Response Amid Hospital Changes

In Tangier, the management of the health crisis related to the coronavirus is not very reassuring. And for good reason.

Lack of official data on the epidemiological situation, lack of contact lists, abrupt change in patient care procedures, lack of equipment... The covid-19 pandemic is being managed in a chaotic manner in the city of Tangier. Hospitals are no longer caring for all patients with coronavirus, reports Al Massae.

Similarly, patients with symptoms of coronavirus infection are now recommended to self-isolate at home for a period of 14 days with an obligation not to come into contact with other people. The law enforcement officers, for their part, supply them with food during their quarantine.

The situation is also critical inside the intensive care unit reserved for serious cases at the Mohammed V Hospital in Tangier. There are few beds and equipment to treat all critical cases. Faced with this situation, the medical staff has repeatedly asked for more equipment and medical reinforcements without any satisfaction so far.

During a recent visit, the Minister of Health, Khalid Ait Taleb, examined the means to reduce the mortality rate due to covid-19 in the region. He also promised to support the medical staff. But this promise is far from reassuring the medical staff. The unions in the region have also organized a sit-in to denounce the haphazard management of the epidemiological situation in Tangier.
