Tangier Reopens Beaches for Limited Activities as COVID-19 Cases Decline

The beaches of Tangier are now open to the public. This is the decision of the local authorities after several months of closure due to the coronavirus.
Following the decline in contamination cases in Tangier, the authorities have loosened up. They have authorized access to the city’s beaches for walking and fishing with a rod. For the moment, collective activities such as swimming, football and volleyball etc. are still prohibited.
According to L’Economiste, this closure of the beaches during the summer period is a first in Tangier. Since the decline in contamination in the city (now at 20 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), the residents had pleaded for the reopening of the beaches. They had wanted to enjoy the last days of summer by the sea. The young people of Tangier who had ventured onto the beaches of Ksar Sghir in Agadir had been turned away.
If the authorities had closed the beaches, they had on the other hand lifted the barriers imposed on certain neighborhoods. This has only facilitated travel within the city. Residents are still waiting in vain for a reclassification of the city as a zone 1 in order to be able to travel and reconnect with some of their activities.
