Tangier Races to Boost Hotel Capacity for 2030 World Cup

Tangier is mobilizing to be ready to host the 2030 World Cup in football. Following a critical assessment by FIFA regarding its tourism infrastructure, the city is implementing an action plan to strengthen its hosting capacity.
From 2025, the Regional Investment Center (CRI) of Tangier will issue exceptional authorizations to facilitate the construction of hotels and tourist residences. The objective is clear: to increase the number of available beds for the expected supporters and visitors during the event.
This acceleration is eagerly awaited by tourism professionals. The sector, impacted by the economic slowdown and delays in approving the city’s development plan, needs a new boost. The suspension of many real estate projects has also contributed to weakening the sector and led to the departure of some investors.
Tangier, which is to host World Cup matches and festivities in 2030, is counting on its geographical position and tourist attractiveness to bounce back. The new reforms concerning the CRI, aimed at simplifying administrative procedures, should also encourage investors, at least that is the hope.
Despite these initiatives, the situation on the ground remains contrasted. Many construction sites, particularly in the Moghogha area, are at a standstill. A revision of the development plan is underway to adapt the city to the requirements of international tourism.
