Tangier Lawyers Protest Colleague’s Arrest, Citing Legal Violations

A lawyer was arrested and then taken into custody in Tangier for drunkenness and violence against a police commissioner without the bar association president being informed. A trampling of the laws that annoys the men in black robes.
The lawyers of Tangier protested on Thursday against this irregular arrest of one of their own in all the courts under the jurisdiction of the city’s court of appeal, reports Assabah. They condemned the trampling of the texts governing the legal profession. In principle, the bar association president should be notified in advance.
In a statement to the Arabic-language newspaper, the president of the Tangier bar association, Brahim Semlali, indicated that the bar association office would hold a meeting to examine this case and take the necessary decisions. A complaint could be filed against the commissioner since the arrested lawyer would have been a victim of violence.
It all started with a dispute between a lawyer who came to inquire about the outcome of a complaint filed for the theft of his mobile phone and a police commissioner. The latter would have reported to the public prosecutor that the lawyer, in a state of drunkenness, had assaulted and insulted him. The man in the robe will be taken into custody then released two hours later. He flatly rejected the accusation of drunkenness or insults against the commissioner. He will explain that it was a simple protest for the delay in the processing of his case.
