Tangier Launches Recovery Plan for Medina Merchants and Tourism Sector

An action plan supported by the Wilaya of Tangier has just been presented by the Regional Delegation of Tourism of Tangier to revive the merchants, craftsmen, shop owners, bazaars and other tourism players shaken by the Covid-19 crisis. This measure is necessary after the restoration and enhancement program of the medina of Tangier, launched in 2020.

Among the planned actions, there is an advertising campaign aimed at promoting and encouraging Moroccans to visit the medina. This campaign, which will be carried out by the Regional Tourism Council of Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceïma, will also provide sales spaces for merchants. Craftsmen will also be redirected to e-commerce for more efficiency, reports L’Économiste.

In this sense, the Wilaya has just launched the "Msarya F’Mdina" (a walk in the medina) initiative. Organized in partnership with the municipality of Tangier, the Agency for the Promotion and Development of the North, the Regional Directorate of Tourism, the Regional Directorate of Culture, as well as the Association of Tourist Guides, it will allow a series of weekly tourist and cultural visits.

Starting this Saturday, visitors will be able to go to various cultural, tourist and religious sites, and participate in traditional craft workshops. Many other sites will be offered in order to relieve the players in the sector whose activities have been severely impacted by the Covid crisis and the closure of borders.

Under the guidance of professional guides, the walks will start from several access points, such as Bab Kasbah, Syaghine, Bab Droj Miricane (The American Legation), Bab Marsa, Bab Dar Dbagh, Bab Bahriya, Bab Gzenaya, and Bouknadel Access (Villa Mabrouka). The Wilaya announces that this initiative will be concluded by a reception at the Bab Diwana square.
