Tangier Customs Seize Major Haul of Smuggled Clothing in Warehouse Raid

The customs officers of Tangier carried out a major seizure of smuggled ready-to-wear clothing last Saturday in the city of the strait.

This operation comes after three others carried out during the week, says Colonel Abdelkader Battani, regional commander of the customs brigades in Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima, adding that the investigations and research carried out made it possible to locate a clandestine warehouse of smuggled clothing, located in the Mghogha Kbira district, near the Mghogha industrial zone.

Subsequently, the customs elements of the Tangier customs brigade, under the effective supervision of the regional command, with the support of the elements of the judicial police brigade of the Béni Makada district of Tangier, carried out a no less fruitful search. They seized 26,000 units of ready-to-wear clothing for women, men and children, of global brands. The same operation made it possible to seize 3.5 tons of smuggled fabrics, 1.2 tons of plastic packaging bags and 1.3 tons of ready-to-wear clothing waste, details Colonel Battani in a statement to the press, specifying that the total value of the seized goods is estimated at around 1.2 million dirhams.

An investigation has been opened by the public prosecutor’s office to identify all the actors involved in this operation and dismantle this criminal network active in the smuggling of fabrics and ready-to-wear clothing, it is further indicated.

Last Wednesday, during three searches, the customs officers had already seized 8 tons of fabrics and 4,670 units of ready-to-wear clothing for women, men and children, worth about 2.5 million dirhams.
