Tangier Cracks Down on Beach Shisha Cafes Amid Summer Concerns

The city of Tangier will soon look into the proliferation of shisha cafes on the city’s beaches, especially during the summer season.

The Tangier councilors have placed this file on the agenda of the next council, reports the daily Al Akhbar, specifying that the owners of certain shisha cafes who do not respect the warnings of the councilors, now have cause for concern.

These shisha cafes often dictate their law during the summer on the beaches of Tangier. A cafe known for its late-night parties where alcohol and shisha are served at will, even to minors, has already carried out renovation work that suggests a reopening for the summer.

Despite the actions of the municipal council to fight against the marketing of shisha in these cafes, the latter have continued to sell this product considered dangerous for the health of consumers, especially young people who are the main customers of these establishments.

Some sources fear that this file will not be examined at the next session of the Tangier municipal council, as the owners of these shisha cafes have lobbies that defend them within several institutions.
