The Tangier corniche left in disrepair

The consulting firm has finished its work and is preparing to submit its report, sources at Al Akhbar indicate, specifying that the document will also be sent to the services of the prefecture of the Tangier region to locate the responsibilities in the neglect of this corniche, which becomes a refuge for the homeless of the city, once night falls.

A municipal official confided to the Arabic-language daily that the deplorable situation in which the corniche finds itself is due to the non-respect of the contract signed in 2017 between the municipality and a parking management company. This contract obliges the company to carry out development and beautification work on the corniche, in exchange for the parking fees it collects.

However, the company has informed the municipality, with supporting evidence, that the management of the corniche parking lot is not profitable, and has even requested financial support to balance its budget. This explains that, the municipal council believes that the company is not responsible for the current situation of the corniche, emphasize the same sources, surprised by this stance of the municipal authorities.

The sources say they do not understand the maintenance of the company’s contract by the municipality which, in the face of these shortcomings, could have terminated this contractual link and recruited another company or even created a company to manage these facilities. The report of the consulting firm will make it possible to locate the responsibilities and could lead to the termination of the contract with the company in question.
