Tangier Closes Beaches Amid COVID-19 Surge in Fahs-Anjra Province

The city of Tangier has closed its beaches due to the spread of contamination cases in the province of Fahs-Anjra. This decision came into effect at midnight on Tuesday.
By decision of the Governor of Fahs-Anjra, Abdelkhaleq Marzouki, the beaches will remain closed until further notice. Local authorities are called upon to ensure the effective implementation of this measure. This decision follows the violation of preventive measures against Covid-19, particularly the ban on going to the beaches. It has been found that many citizens have been using the beaches of Fahs-Anjra in recent days.
By taking this measure, the governor intends to curb the spread of the coronavirus in the said province. The Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region recorded 9,385 cases of coronavirus contamination as of August 26, the second highest number since the appearance of the virus in Morocco. The majority of cases were recorded in the provinces of Tangier-Asilah and Fahs-Anjra. Several outbreaks of contamination have also been discovered in the production plants located in Fahs-Anjra.
On Sunday, the local authorities prohibited the owners of tourist accommodations built near the beaches from renting bungalows and apartments to visitors.
