Tangier Bans Public Grilling of Sheep Heads During Eid Al-Adha Amid COVID-19 Concerns

The municipal council of Tangier, in its capacity as administrative police, formally prohibits the grilling of the heads and feet of the sacrificial sheep of Eid Al-Adha, on the edges of roads and in public spaces.
This is an activity that is raging on the day of Eid Al-Adha and many young people indulge in it in Morocco. Except that with the coronavirus, the practice is temporarily prohibited. At least in Tangier, specifies a note from the president of the council, adding that the decision aims to preserve the cleanliness of the city, organize this activity and avoid the resulting damage.
Thus, grilling the heads and feet of the sacrificial sheep in public spaces and on the roadside will be formally prohibited. The measure is justified by the informal nature of this activity and the total lack of rules, hygiene measures and those relating to food safety that characterize this practice.
Only establishments such as neighborhood ovens will be authorized to carry out this activity, while scrupulously respecting hygiene measures. Its implementation will have to be ensured by the local authorities with the need to comply with the instructions, taking into account the maintenance of calm and ensuring that the fires lit are extinguished at the end of the activity, the statement said.
Furthermore, the municipality has announced that it has temporarily set up a space in a plot, located in the Ahrarin Sidi Driss area, dedicated to the sale of livestock intended for the Eid sacrifice.
It also indicates that it has equipped the market intended for the sale of livestock with the necessary equipment, including water, electricity and sanitary facilities, with a permanent presence of Auxiliary Forces and National Security elements, supported by a team from a private security company.
