Eid al-Adha Aftermath: Belgian Cities See Decline in Illegal Sheep Slaughter

In Belgium, the day after the celebration of Eid al-Adha, the sidewalks of certain municipalities were strewn with bags containing sheep carcasses. This, despite the ban on home slaughter in the Brussels region.
In Schaerbeek for example, where the cleaning services have set up devices to limit the pollution of the city with bags of sheep carcasses, "only 6 carcasses were found last weekend". Compared to previous years, there is a "drastic decrease", rejoices Déborah Lorenzino (DéFI), Alderman for Public Cleanliness of the city. In the capital, Brussels, the observation is edifying. As in 2019, the number of carcass bags "is very close to zero", we are told.
On the other hand, 50 bags of carcasses were recovered from the weekend to Monday, in Anderlecht, indicates La Capitale. A slightly higher figure than last year when about thirty were collected. Same trend in Molenbeek where 165 carcasses were recorded in the streets, compared to about fifty in 2019, far from the peak of 229 bags found in 2016.
The situation is worse at Bruxelles-Propreté, where 239 bags of carcasses were collected between July 31 and August 2. A figure significantly higher than 2019 when only 130 bags were collected on the regional roads.
