Tangier Authorities Scramble to Clean City for Surprise Royal Visit

The authorities of Tangier bent over backwards to clean up the city before the arrival of King Mohammed VI on Tuesday, in his personal car from M’diq. This trip was apparently not planned.
The main streets of the city have been arranged and cleared of waste, beggars and homeless people. The street vendors occupying the public space have also been cleared before the arrival of King Mohammed VI, who had not planned to go to Tangier.
The Sovereign visited his royal palace in the Jbel Kebir region, then returned shortly afterwards to M’diq where he spends his summer vacation. This unexpected visit by Mohammed VI surprised the local authorities who rushed to make the city clean to give the king a warm welcome. The Wali of the region, Younes Tazi, feared a royal anger, according to Rue20, if any shortcomings had been observed.
