Swiss Tourist’s Death Sparks Rabies Warning for Morocco Travelers

Switzerland warns its citizens planning to travel to Morocco about the risk related to rabies. In late June, a Swiss tourist on vacation in Agadir died after being bitten by a stray dog in the Taghazout area, north of the city.
Following the update of its travel advice for Swiss travelers to Morocco, the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) explicitly warns against contact with stray animals and the risk of rabies infection. "Always keep your distance from stray animals. Several cases of deaths due to rabies after dog bites have been reported," the FDFA writes on its website.
In late June, a Swiss tourist on vacation in Agadir died after being bitten by a stray dog in the Taghazout area, north of the city. "The deceased was playing with the stray dog that attacked her by surprise. The bite was considered minor and not serious by the specialists who provided her with appropriate care, immediately cleaning and disinfecting the wound, before administering a post-exposure vaccine."
Despite this treatment, the Swiss tourist succumbed to her injuries. Death confirmed by the FDFA.
