Suspect Arrested in Fatal Hit-and-Run of Moroccan Gendarme Near Guercif

The investigators of the gendarmerie and the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation (BCIJ) succeeded in locating and apprehending the driver who had hit and killed, on September 13 last, a gendarme near Guercif. Pending his appearance before the courts, he has been placed in pre-trial detention.
On the run for a few weeks, the reckless driver who had killed a gendarme on the highway near Taza was arrested near Sidi Bennour, reports Al Akhbar. This is the result of the investigations of the general command of the gendarmerie of Rabat, in coordination with its regional services in Guercif and Sidi Bennour. Under the supervision of Army Corps General Mohamed Haramou, this investigation was carried out in close cooperation with the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) of Rabat.
The investigation began following the testimony of a person who was near the scene of the accident and who gave the description of the suspect’s car to the gendarmerie and BCIJ investigators. Their work consisted of carrying out scientific and technical expertise, which allowed them to identify, locate and apprehend the reckless driver near Sidi Bennour. The analysis of the blood traces taken from the car of the accused also confirmed that he is the presumed perpetrator of the homicide.
During his interrogation, the reckless driver admitted the facts but said he was unable to distinguish the gendarme’s uniform and thought he was the target of an attempted assault and robbery on the highway. After being brought before the public prosecutor’s office last Sunday, the accused was placed in pre-trial detention.
