The police elements of Agadir arrested on Saturday, January 15, a 31-year-old individual, suspected of having killed a 79-year-old French woman residing in a campsite near the city of Tiznit and of having assaulted a Belgian woman in Agadir. An investigation is underway to shed light on this case.

A premeditated murder and an attempted murder in two Moroccan cities. In a statement, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) reported that the suspect was filmed by a surveillance camera in a business at the municipal market in Tiznit, while fatally assaulting a foreign national with a bladed weapon (a French woman), before fleeing and being arrested in Agadir, where he also attempted to physically assault the customers of a cafe on the seafront, including a Belgian national who was taken to the hospital to receive the necessary care.

According to the DGSN, the suspect is suspected of having committed "a premeditated murder and an attempted murder". The identification procedures carried out on the databases of the National Security and on the medical records showed that the defendant had already been admitted to the psychiatric department of the Hassan I Hospital in Tiznit for a month, from September 25 to October 25, 2021, on a requisition order issued by the local authority, the same source specifies.

Pending the determination of the motives for his act, the accused has been placed in custody for the purposes of the judicial investigation ordered by the competent public prosecutor’s office.
