Survey: 20% of Moroccans Believe National Team Can Win World Cup

One in five Moroccans sees the Atlas Lions winning this 2022 World Cup in Qatar, according to a survey conducted by L’Economiste-Sunergia.
Morocco faces Canada on Thursday in the third day of the group stage of the World Cup. While the Canadians are playing for honor, as they have not obtained any points since the start of the competition, the Atlas Lions are aiming for qualification for the round of 16, after their victory over Belgium (2-0) and the draw against Croatia (0-0).
According to the results of the Économiste-Sunergia survey, conducted between November 2 and 17, 15% of Moroccans wish to see the Atlas Lions in the round of 16 and 12% hope they will reach the quarter-finals. Some more optimistic respondents see the national team reaching the semi-finals (20%), others the final (19%) and others still winning the cup (18%). Only 7% of respondents believe that Morocco will leave the competition in the first round.
63% of the Moroccans surveyed, including 76% of men and 49% of women, are interested in this international competition, the survey reveals. By age group, young people aged 18-24 and 35-44 show more interest in the World Cup (66%) than people aged 55-64 (57%). The majority of those surveyed prefer to follow the matches at home (64% for men and 90% for women).
