Survey: 87% of Moroccan Companies Lack Online Presence in 2019

In 2019, only 13.1% of Moroccan companies had a website presenting their activities, according to a survey conducted by the High Commission for Planning (HCP).
More precisely, nearly 7 out of 10 companies have not created a website, indicates the report carried out on the situation of the integration of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) at the level of companies.
The figures are more alarming at the level of medium or small companies which constitute 93% of all companies in Morocco. More than 3 out of 5 very small, small and medium-sized enterprises (VSMEs) did not have a website or a page on social networks, it is revealed.
Regarding the use of the website for the commercial development of companies, a large majority of them, which have a website, do not make this platform their exchange space. 4 out of 7 companies among them have not made online orders or payments from their web page.
In addition, the HCP points out that 6 out of 7 companies did not recruit in the ICT field on the eve of the Covid-19 crisis. "Companies were weakly equipped with ICT specialists on the eve of the Covid-19 crisis. During the 2016-2018 period, 86% of companies did not recruit ICT specialists," it notes.
Sectorally, companies in the electrical and electronic industries are at the forefront of companies that have successfully integrated the website into their management. They are followed by the chemical and food industries. On the other hand, the other branches, dominated by medium or small companies, showed a significant lag in the use of ICT.
