Morocco Sees 30% Surge in New Business Startups, Leading Maghreb Region

The health crisis has boosted entrepreneurship in Morocco. A total of 58,408 new companies were created in 2021, an increase of 30% compared to 2020.
This is the result of a study carried out by the Inforisk firm, specifying that with this rate, the kingdom ranks first in the Maghreb with 70% of business creations in 2021.
In terms of regional distribution, more than a quarter of the companies created are grouped in the Casablanca-Settat region. The figures speak of 15,227 new companies during the period (26%), the city of Casablanca alone containing 13,958 company creations (24%).
It is followed by the regions of Tanger-Tetouan (7,246 business creations (12%), Rabat-Salé-Zemmour - Zaer (6,291 companies, 11%), Marrakech-Tensift-Al Haouz (6,118 new companies, 11%), Souss-Massa-Drâa (4,306 business creations, 7%), Gharb-Cherarda-Beni Hssen (2,910 business creations, 5%), Fès-Boulemane (2,680 business creations, 5%), Meknès - Tafilalet (2,610 business creations, 4%) and the Oriental (2,427 business creations (4%).
Regarding the sectors, the study observed a positive dynamic in the creation of companies in the trade and automotive repair sector, with 25,827 new companies (31%) in 2021. They are followed by the real estate and business services sectors with 15,970 new creations (19%) and the construction sector with 13,641 new business creations (16%).
