Morocco Sees 22% Surge in New Business Registrations in 2021, Signaling Economic Recovery

Morocco is experiencing a resurgence of entrepreneurship after a period of decline in 2020. The number of companies created in 2021 stood at 135,000, up 22% from the previous year.
These companies are divided between legal entities and individuals, according to the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC), in its barometer of business creations.
Regarding the legal forms of companies, certificates of negative intention for the creation of legal entities represent 93%, or 125,622, while the intention to create brands constitutes 7% of the total certificates issued with 9,496.
In addition, registration in the commercial register showed an upward trend with 104,748 registered companies at the end of 2021, up 23%, the Office notes, according to which the creation of legal entities companies increased by 31%, accompanied by a 9% growth in the creation of individual companies.
At the same time, there is a predominance of limited liability companies with a single partner (56%) and limited liability companies (43.6%), the office notes, noting that only 0.3% of the companies created are under the anonymous regime.
By region, Casablanca-Settat is home to 34% of the new companies, followed by the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region with 15% and the Marrakech-Safi and Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima regions with 11% of certificates issued each, according to the barometer.
