Super Falcons dollars theft Casablanca hotel employee arrested

Casablanca police have arrested a hotel employee suspected of stealing money from the rooms of Super Falcons players. A sum of 10,000 dirhams, obtained from the conversion of stolen dollars, was seized.

The case emerged following complaints from several players of the Nigerian national team, who were staying in Casablanca for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations organized in Morocco.

Five international players reported the disappearance of a total of 1,220 dollars from their rooms. Esther Okoronkwo notably mentioned the theft of 700 dollars, while captain Rasheedat Ajibade reported losing 200 dollars.

Initial suspicion had fallen on members of the establishment’s staff, although no responsibility was officially established at that time. The Anfa judicial police brigade then conducted investigations that identified a hotel employee.

The suspect was arrested on Saturday. During the searches, police found 10,000 dirhams, a sum that would correspond to the money obtained after converting the dollars stolen from the players into Moroccan currency.

This arrest provides concrete evidence in a case that had sparked numerous reactions just days before Nigeria’s competition entry.
