Super Falcons missing money Casablanca investigation underway

The Super Falcons have officially reported to Moroccan authorities the disappearance of money from their hotel rooms in Casablanca. An investigation is now underway, according to the media officer of the Nigerian national team.

The matter came to light following posts by Esther Okoronkwo on Snapchat. The striker claims she first discovered 500 dollars missing from her wallet, before revising the missing amount to 700 dollars.

She accuses members of the cleaning staff at the Marriott in Casablanca of taking the money during the players’ absence. These accusations have not, at this stage, been confirmed by investigation results.

The incident officially reported

Mary Cathryn, media officer for the Super Falcons, confirmed to PM News Nigeria that several players had reported missing money. She clarifies that the competent authorities in Morocco have been notified and that investigations are underway.

The players also say they questioned the hotel management without obtaining satisfactory explanations. Esther Okoronkwo denounced on social media the attitude of certain contacts after reporting the facts.

Neither the Nigerian Football Federation, nor the hotel, nor the African Football Confederation had yet published an official statement. The investigation must notably determine the exact circumstances of the disappearances and establish any responsibilities.

The incident does not appear to have interrupted Nigeria’s sports preparation. The Super Falcons must begin their continental title defense against Malawi, before facing Zambia and Egypt in Group C.
