The Nigerian goalkeeper under investigation after an obscene gesture against the Moroccan public
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has opened an investigation into the behavior of the Nigerian national team goalkeeper during the semi-final against Morocco. The player is accused of having made provocative gestures towards the supporters present in the stands, an attitude considered contrary to sporting ethics.
The incident was captured by television cameras during the match, showing Stanley Nwabali directly addressing the public with a middle finger. These video sequences constitute the basis of the technical examination launched by the continental football authorities. The objective is to determine whether these acts constitute a violation of the disciplinary regulations governing CAF competitions.
According to sources close to the case, the disciplinary commission of the body is currently preparing a detailed report on the facts. The conclusions of this procedure will make it possible to rule on any sanctions. These could range from an official warning to a firm suspension, depending on the degree of seriousness retained by the commissioners.
This procedure comes as CAF seeks to ensure respect for the rules of fair play during the final stages of the tournament. The final decision is expected shortly, before the end of the competition, in order to clarify the player’s disciplinary situation for the remaining matches.
