Stranded in Marrakech after his flight was cancelled, this Briton must pay for two extra nights

Thomas Reilly was due to leave Marrakech on Tuesday, September 8, on a British Airways flight to Gatwick, before continuing his journey to Marseille. According to his testimony published on Wednesday by The Guardian, he only discovered that his flight had been cancelled once he arrived at the airport.

The traveller says he had to extend his stay in Marrakech by two nights at his own expense, while waiting for a new departure scheduled for Thursday, September 10.

Thousands of flights disrupted

His case is part of a broader series of disruptions caused by an IT failure that affected several British airports. More than 2,000 flights were reportedly cancelled, leaving many passengers stranded or forced to change their travel plans.

In Marrakech, Thomas Reilly says he had to reorganise his trip and accommodation on his own. He was initially due to reach Marseille after travelling via London, but the cancellation of his flight disrupted his entire itinerary.

The situation particularly affected travellers using routes to the United Kingdom, with several airlines having to cancel or delay their flights following the failure.
